When L&H designed, engineered, and manufactured the first Omega undercarriage, our goal was to provide our customers with an assembly that would perform better and last significantly longer than industry standards, dramatically decreasing their machine downtime, as well as the total cost of ownership of their shovels. Now, with over 140 undercarriages operating across the globe for more than a decade, L&H has proven that the current L&H Omega system lasts 30% longer than OEM models, every time. To continue to set those industry-leading benchmarks, we decided to upgrade the current Omega system to leap even farther ahead of existing technologies. Here’s what we’ve accomplished.

An innovative shoe design, fine-tuned to perfection

We’ve tested the strength and performance of our shoes from every angle. We upped the proportion of impact-resistant manganese steel in our shoes, increasing their density and slowing wear into a predictable linear wear pattern. Through these innovations, we’ve been able to maintain an unprecedented 0.001% failure rate, making our shoes the most reliable option available.

Deep engagement where you need it

Our innovative shoe system features deep engagement and a stable pitch that fits deep into drive tines. This helps to create a larger contact area, which reduces wear on tumblers and other key components. A straddle-mount front idler that lasts 3x the OEM design

Our straddle mount design simplifies inspections and maintenance, and extends the typical maintenance interval up to three times that of the OEM design. This innovation opens the door to additional bushing, which reduces the bearing stress by 50% and eliminates the need to split the tracks to replace them.

Roller innovations that mean greater productivity for your fleet

Our 1-piece, forged, lower rollers last 30% longer than other conventional brands, thanks to our innovative heat treatment process. We’ve also given additional clearance to our undercarriage by creating an elevated roller path––an enhancement that provides more maneuverability in poor operating conditions and helps better distribute the weight of the machine.

The L&H Omega propel transmission increases torque by 50-65%, enabling your machine to move through any terrain with ease.

Maintenance made simple

The L&H Omega Undercarriage has raised the bar in the industry by making design improvements that lengthen maintenance intervals and decrease total cost-per-hour. Our straddle mount improvements collectively cut out 8 hours or more of maintenance time, while all consumable-type components have been moved to the outside of the side frame, reducing how often the track must be split for upkeep.

We developed a 1,400-ton capacity, multi-point, hydraulic lift system which requires no major shovel disassembly, facilitates safe and easy maintenance access, and makes undercarriage replacements simple.

Worldwide, 24/7 field services

Our experienced field crews are available around the clock to install, maintain, repair and rebuild our L&H Omega Undercarriage, as well as other assemblies for electric rope shovels. We also audit the machinery we sell to our customers every three months, which helps us ensure that L&H components are operating smoothly, and gives us an opportunity to better predict their expected life in your particular mine.

Case Study

One of our customers in the Powder River Basin did a head-to-head test of our L&H Omega Undercarriage against a competitor’s undercarriage by running them on two identical machines operating in the same mine.

The results are pretty compelling:
