How 24/7 equipment monitoring helped a mining operation identify a developing issue before it became a costly failure
Maintaining reliable plant operations depends on keeping critical conveyor and drive equipment running. Traditional inspection intervals can provide valuable equipment data, but changing operating conditions can make intermittent issues difficult to capture before they develop into larger problems.
To improve visibility into equipment health, a coal mine in the Powder River Basin worked with L&H Industrial to implement Ops IQ continuous condition monitoring within its plant. By collecting and analyzing vibration data around the clock, the system provided maintenance teams with a clearer picture of equipment performance between routine inspections.
That additional visibility soon uncovered an abnormal condition on a critical piece of plant equipment that had not been captured through periodic monitoring. Catching the issue early gave the mine an opportunity to investigate and address the problem before it escalated into an unplanned failure.
