With a passion for working on machines and growing up around the methane and oil field industry, Justin Elmer knew he wanted to grow a career in manufacturing and service for heavy industry. Raised around his father’s service company in the Methane fields of Wyoming, Justin had worked as a young man from machining, welding, mechanical work and operating heavy equipment. When Elmer began working with L&H Industrial in 2011 in the polishing and grinding department he know there was an opportunity to grow a career in the industries he had grown to enjoy working in so much.
Experience around the company
Beginning his career at L&H in the polishing and grinding department, which preps the parts for chroming, he then transferred into machining and has now accepted a position as a job coordinator. Now in a position focused on planning and throughput rather than his previous production positions, Elmer is learning a lot in this different side of the business as well as utilizing his understanding and knowledge from his experience in production. In Elmer’s new position as a job coordinator he works with customer’s and L&H’s outside sales teams to quote, schedule and oversee jobs from ordering materials to production and ultimately through final delivery or install for the customer. Ultimately, as a job coordinator, Elmer’s job is critical in ensuring quoting is accurate and jobs go accordingly; he explained,
“It’s important to me to get the best quality product out the door to the customer on time and on budget, quality means a lot here at L&H and it’s important for me to plan, schedule and quote jobs correctly for that reason and then oversee them through production.”
Learning a new software system has been a critical part of the job as well; utilizing the ERP manufacturing software, Elmer utilizes the software to schedule and build jobs, view backlogs, track throughput and monitor costs. Along with the new software Elmer uses daily, he has also learned from his peers and credits L&H’s teamwork culture to the success of his on the job learning. Elmer explained,
“I really enjoy my job because of the camaraderie here, everyone I work with in the company is willing to help each other out.”
Elmer said he has enjoyed all of his job positions here at L&H and looks forward to continuing to grow his career with the company. Continuing to meet new customers and work in new industries L&H is moving into is something he looks forward to.
